Luna Moth

Luna moths are one of the most unusual and beautiful of the North American moths. Their night flying habit and adult life span of about a week make them a rare find. This one was pretty tattered and couldn't fly which accounts for his appearance during the daytime. Adult luna moths don't eat, in fact, they don't even have a mouth. Their only purpose is to mate.

Even on this moth's seventh day, it is very beautiful.

If you find any beautiful specimens that have left their earthly life, please save them for the children to study. We found a cocoon 2 years ago that we thought was void, but after several months a beautiful luna moth appeared in the aquarium where the cocoon had been. Can you imagine the excitement of the children--a real learning experience. Thank you for the beautiful pictures! Jeanne
