Exploring the Salt Marsh

Marsh Periwinkles

Marsh periwinkle snails observed in the salt marsh at Hobcaw Barony. They feed on algae on the sediment surface while the tide is out. When the tide comes in they attach themselves to grass stems above the water to minimize predators such as blue crabs.
